Pollution of the Mencirim River from household waste has had various negative impacts on environmental quality and public health in Binjai City. Untreated liquid waste damages the river ecosystem and increases the risk of diseases associated with poor sanitation. This study aims to control pollution in the Mencirim River by providing information on the development of household wastewater treatment plants to communities surrounding the river. The methods used included hands-on training, outreach, and technical assistance in constructing simple wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The results of the outreach demonstrated increased community awareness and ability to manage household waste independently, resulting in reduced pollutant levels in the river and improved environmental health. Therefore, the outreach on household wastewater treatment is an effective effort to maintain river water quality and the health of residents in Binjai City.
